Recirculating ball nut and worm steering gear

Recirculating ball nut and worm steering gear
Product Detailed
Mechanical Steering gearwith energy saving construction; with more old type parts are available especially rebuilt sevice

The recirculating-ball steering gear contains a worm gear. You can image the gear in two parts. The first part is a block of metal with a threaded hole in it. This block has gear teeth cut into the outside of it, which engage a gear that moves the pitman arm shaft (see diagram above). The steering wheel connects to a threaded rod, similar to a bolt, that sticks into the hole in the block. When the steering wheel turns, it turns the bolt. Instead of twisting further into the block the way a regular bolt would, this bolt is held fixed so that when it spins, it moves the block, which moves the gear that turns the wheels.

The ball nut assembly: Ball nut determines the load and life of the ball screw assembly. The ratio of the number of threads in the ball nut circuit to the number Of threads on the ball screw determines how much sooner the ball nut will reach Fatigue failure (wear out) than the ball screw will. Ball nuts are manufactured With two types of return systems.

Steering Gearbox is a mechanical method of transferring energy from one device to another and is used to increase torque while reducing speed. Torque is the power generated through the bending or twisting of a solid material. This term is used interchangeably with transmission. In a situation where multiple gear speeds are needed, a transmission with multiple gears can be used to increase torque while slowing down the output speed. This design is commonly found in automobile transmissions. The same principle can be used to create an overdrive gear that increases output speed while decreasing torque. In an automobile, there are three types of transmission: automatic, manual or continuously variable. A manual transmission vehicle provides the best example of a simple gearbox. In both the automatic and continuously variable transmissions, the gearboxes are closed systems, requiring very little human interaction. Each unit is manufactured with a specific purpose in mind and the gear ratio used is designed to provide the level of force required. This ratio is fixed and cannot be changed once the box is constructed.
